I raised three chickens from three-day old chicks into their adulthood. As a part of their care, I designed and built their coop for my backyard. I had help from a friend in construction management, and together we built a beautiful and sturdy coop for my girls. The project was not only an effort in design and construction but also time and money management. I was able to build the coop on a budget by utilizing resources from my community. I raised my chickens in my yard for two years before graduating, when I passed their care over to the new tenants in my university house. The coop has remained a beautiful home for them, keeping them safe at night and giving them a place to lay their eggs.
